Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed his “clear disagreement” with the latest use of the Bonn powers by international peace envoy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, High Representative Christian Schmidt, noting that this does not contribute to stability.

Vucic met Schmidt in Belgrade on Thursday, and they agreed that preserving the peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the whole region is crucial for economic progress of the Western Balkans.

According to the statement issued by the Serbian President's office, Schmidt presented his view of the reasons to use the Bonn powers which Vucic disagreed with, noting that this does not contribute to stability.

Using the special powers he was assigned with by the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Schmidt suspended the Law on Immovable Property in Bosnia's Serb-majority region Republika Srpska earlier this week, sparking strong disagreement among the Bosnian Serb leadership.

Serb member of Bosnia and Herzegovina's tripartite Presidency Milorad Dodik, who was elected in Republika Srpska, said the law would come into effect regardless of Schmidt's decision.
