Authorities in Jablanica municipality, south of Sarajevo, have asked for the assistance of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in extinguishing the fire that has been spreading throughout Thursday morning in an inaccessible area.

The fire caught forest and low vegetation on a steep terrain, which requires the assistance of helicopters, the authorities said.

Reportedly, the fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon near a high-voltage power line, and electric discharge was identified as a cause.

This is another in a series of wildfires that were recently reported in the southern Herzegovina-Neretva region, with most of them being put under control. Jablanica authorities said a fire that was detected near the railway has also been contained.

Due to the wind, a fire also kept spreading on the territory of the southern Stolac municipality but is currently not threatening nearby homes.

A fire in Capljina municipality, also in the south, has reactivated near the Budisavine hill. Despite the inaccessibility of the area, suspected to be covered with mines, firefighters are keeping the fire under control and preventing its spread to the inhabited areas.
