Zenica miners ended their hunger strike which began on Wednesday but continued with the general strike in the Subsidiary Brown Coal Mines (RMU) Zenica, said the head of the RMU Zenica Trade Union, Izudin Spahijaj, adding that they hope for a solution at the meeting with authorities of Bosnia's Federation entity and parent company, Elektroprivreda BiH.

Some twenty union members and brigadiers, who went on a hunger strike, will remain in the premises of the Miners’ Home until their demands that the accounts of RMU Zenica and Breza are unblocked. According to Spahijaj, they also demand a consistent application of the collective agreement and the payment of contributions for the retirement of 36 Zenica miners who received decisions on retirement last year.

Spahijaj added that the decisive factor to end the hunger strike was the invitation of the head of the FBiH Miners’ Union, Sinan Husic, who informed them that a meeting in the Federation entity Government building was scheduled for Monday, February 15.

According to him, the representatives of the Trade Union, the directors of the Zenica and Breza mines and the Public Enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH, the parent company of these two mines, will be present at that meeting.

The agreement, he notes, would mean the miners returning to work in the second shift on Monday, or in the third shift at the latest.
